Dieting Tips For Salads When Dining Out
More Information About Dining Out with Dieting Tips on Salads
Do you know what is in that salad you just ordered? You think that just because you ordered a salad, that it is healthy, right? Well, maybe and maybe not. It depends on what is in the salad. We are not talking about the actual vegetables, but all the other items that have been added to it. Here are some dieting tips for salads when dining out.
- When you order a salad, ask the waiter to serve the dressing separately. This way you can put only what you need. You will probably not use, nor should you, the entire amount. Remember, you need to watch the amounts you use.
- Most restaurants give you a choice of salad dressings. Avoid the cream a based ones, and select those, which are vinaigrette based.
- Ask what kind of oil is used in the dressing. If it is possible, see if you can order one using olive oil.
- If the salad has croutons, ask that they not be put into the salad. They can contain lots of calories and they maybe even fried. Croutons should be avoided.
- Watch out for added cheese with your salad. One slice of cheese, one ounce, can contain over 100 calories.
- If the salad has bacon bits, be careful. They can be very high in sodium content. If you are watching your blood pressure, this can be critical.
- Does the salad contain hard-boiled eggs? Ok, simply remove the yolk, and you eliminate 60 calories, and a lot of cholesterol and saturated fat.
This seems to be a list of "do not eat that," and " do not eat this." It is enough to make you just give up entirely. All is not lost, and you can still eat out and enjoy yourself “ really.
One basic principle that I have used is substituting fatty things for low fat or no fat items. For example, instead of ordering a salad with hard-boiled eggs, how about one that contains fruit? Or how about selecting some nuts instead of those bacon bits? Nuts, by the way, have lots of those good fats. These are the monounsaturated fats that can actually help.
The above does seem to be a lot of do's and don'ts on eating salads. These are just some of the dieting tips for salads when dining out.
